Description
Project description
The goal of this project is to improve boundaries data across Gabon using available and approved open data resources.
The project’s focus will be adding new and fixing existing boundary related map features using community guidelines for mapping as main instructions.
Data processing and editing in OSM
Mapping will be done using JOSM tool, while using validator, following the wiki, as well as the Learn OSM guidelines.
All the features our team edits will be added manually and will have a source listed in our changeset comments. Additionally, when making any edits, we will be adhering to the Organized editing guidelines.
The team will be adding changeset comments that follow OSM changeset guidelines with the added comment of #MSFTOpenMaps in the comments to help identify edits made to the map by our team.
Data sources and guidelines
Source used for fixing or adding boundary features will be Who’s On First who refer to Mesoshapes files for this particular dataset which is under with CC-BY license.
Tagging and interpretation of boundaries related data will be done based on Boundaries guideline as well as any available community information and related community channels. All the interpretation and possible new mapping will be adjusted to the existing situation on OSM. In cases of any disputed territory mapping or mapping of specific regions, all will be processed in communication with community members.
Additional info
Prior to posting this project description we extensively researched and contacted active community members to understand and interpret data adequately. We look forward to working with the community on these efforts and to help build a better map for everyone.
