Description
Project description
The goal of this project is to improve places data in New Zealand, using available and approved open data resources. This will include various features listed through place=* osm tag.
The project’s focus will be adding new and fixing existing place and boundary related map features using community guidelines for mapping as main instructions.
Data processing and editing in OSM
Mapping will be done using JOSM tool, while using validator, following the wiki, as well as the Learn OSM guidelines.
All the features our team edits will be added manually and will have a source listed in our changeset comments. Additionally, when making any edits, we will be adhering to the Organized editing guidelines.
The team will be adding changeset comments that follow OSM changeset guidelines with the added comment of #MSFTOpenMaps in the comments to help identify edits made to the map by our team.
Data sources and guidelines
Source used for fixing or adding place-related features will be OSM approved licenses in accordance with Contributors - OpenStreetMap Wiki. For processing suburbs, localities and islands this specific LINZ set will be in use.
Tagging and interpretation of place related data will be done based on New Zealand - OpenStreetMap Wiki and related community channels. All the interpretation and possible new mapping will be adjusted to the existing situation on OSM in that specific region or city.
Additional info
Prior to posting this project description we extensively researched and contacted active community members to understand and interpret data adequately. We look forward to working with the community on these efforts and to help build a better map for everyone.
