Icon Request: bitaxe

[Explain the icon you think would fit well in this icon set and why it would be useful to Bitcoiners.]

The mining device icon is difficult to make out when it's very small. It resembles an ASIC appliance fan cover from a particular closed source manufacturer who is known to actively undermine the health of the network through their business practices. My mining pool project is focused on expanding the usability of small open source miners like the Bitaxe.

No, but I vibed up this picture for a talk I gave earlier this year. This is along the lines of what I would want in a Bitaxe icon.

Thanks for the request. I added it to the next release milestone that I'll work on in the next weeks.

There are probably two approaches to this - represent the miner, or just include the Bitaxe logo (probably just the B). Or both. For the miner, we have to test out what we can include at the small scale we need.

Not sure how clearly this communicates, but here's a first draft.

I was also looking to see if the B in the Bitaxe logo can be rendered in a single line style at this small scale, but was not successful in making it recognizable.

Looks cool! I would totally replace the mining pick icons in the lower table with this bitaxe icon.

I've been thinking about adding some flair for miners who somehow support the bitaxe movement. Maybe like a red stylized Bitaxe B for those rows. I have no idea how I would authenticate these users in a super private, anonymous mining pool. 😅 This idea is probably not a winner.

I had another thought about an icon similar to the bitmain fan cover with a proto mining grill cover. It looks really cool! Those guys have an eye for design. I don't love this idea because, although I like Proto as a company, this would just be replacing one company brand association with another one.

Not sure how you would depict it but the little power cable on the top right side is also a very distinctive visual element that could help make a faster lizard brain association to a bitaxe.

The form factor may change soon with the new 100W ember one boards, and who knows what will come after that. Hopefully bitcoin water heaters. It remains to be seen how enduring the current bitaxe form factor is.

Regarding Proto, I'd prefer to stay away from company products for the general icon set. But maybe there's space to have a set of custom icons for your site that represent the different products? In a similar vein, I made these outline icons for hardware wallets some years ago). Not all applications need them, but it's great for those that have external signer user flows. And having multiple sizes is a real benefit there.
